Lixoúri
The harbour front viewed from the Argostóli to Lixoúri Ferry
On the Palikí peninsula Lixoúri is the second largest town on the island, but despite it being a thriving port, it seems to retain a little more traditional Greek feel. The bus station is just over the road from the ferry dock, seen in the left picture.
The large square lies just over the road from the ferry dock
Also on the seafront is this splendid gentleman - Andréas Laskarátos (1811 - 1901)
A poet and satirist who took regular literary pops at the church, until they eventually decided to excommunicate him - this was almost like a curse, such that his body would not break down after his death.
Laskarátos dashed home, grabbed his childrens' tattered shoes and rushed back to the church to see if he could get him to excommunicate then as well.
The seafront has mant excellent tavernas (one of which we had a very pleasant long lunch in) and great views, such as the one on the left above, looking across to Farsa on the mainland in the far distance
There are some fascinating buildings, such as this electrical appliance shop with rows of wonderful pot plants on the first and second floors
As we left Lixoúri on the ferry we were treated to this spectacular sunset.
