Travelling to Pátmos
Unless you can stretch to a helicopter ride, then you'll be travelling to Pátmos by sea, and arriving at any Greek island by sea is wonderfully romantic when you're on the deck of a ferry. The land steadily comes closer, revealing its secrects and scenery, with which you'll soon be familiar.
patmos-island.com has an excellent section on the various methods of getting to Patmos, so I'll just summarise them and provide some useful numbers on the island itself.
You can fly to Athens and then travel to Piraeus to catch a ferry to Pátmos (Gate E1) - about 6.45 hour journey by ferry.
If you don't fancy the long ferry journey from Piraeus, then you can also fly from Athens with Olymic Airways to Sámos, Kós or Rhodes and then catch a Flying Dophin/Ferry to Pátmos.
There are also commercial flights from the UK to Sámos, Kós and Rhodes.
September 2004 we flew to Sámos and then took the Flying Dolphin from Pythagório to Pátmos (although it was a day late in going, due to the rough seas from the winds). On the way back we took the Níssos Kálymnos to Pythagório.
