Assos

This gorgeous fishing hamlet clusters around a peninsula that juts out from the north west coastline of the island, the following images were taken from the road up to the castle, looking back down onto the village

The views from both that aspect, and from the long road that winds its way down from the Fiskárdo road, are tremendous

The village was rebuilt by the French after the earthquake and exudes a gentle, sleepy charm - the village square is called 'Paris.'

Some of the buildings seem to grow from the rocks themselves

There is still some fishing activity here

Time slips away in the most pleasant fashion

Beaches

As you come down the hill from the winding road there is some parking on the right on entering the village, but there is also a quite large car park on the neck of the peninsula, just before the rough road starts to make its way up to the castle

The beaches are sand/shingle, you may want to wear neoprene shoes/jellies, but I found I didn't need them

The water is crystal clear, shallow and flat calm, due to the lagoon-like harbour

Small boats are available for hire which you can take to investigate some of the other small beaches
